High Level Political Forum Updates

CEE attended the Intergenerational Connections for Change Session

The focus of the High Level Political Forum (2024) is future generations and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through dialogue among stakeholders, experts and Member States, the hope is to share, educate and identify solutions for recommendations and best practices to support the hard work towards goal attainment. Today, CEE participated in a Working Group on Intergenerational Collaborations, with nearly 500 international stakeholders (NGOs, experts, ambassadors, others). Appreciation to Jack Kuperferman, Moderator. Discussions of how intergenerational collaborations are and can benefit older and younger adults to achieve a common goal related to the SDGs. The information shared includes the Workgroup on Aging report (March 2024) and other materials. The following presentations and resources useful as we are always seeking collaborative solutions to problems that represent all demographic groups.

Tells a personal story about intergenerational traditions in her Kenyan family. Recognizes technological issues that are good and can divide generations as well. Reviewed research on older adults (skills, knowledge) and how to help. Five proposals: 1) Awareness of Older person needs, 2) Help Older persons make contributions to society, 3) Provide opportunities in education and community organizations for older workers to share knowledge and experiences with younger persons, 4) Collaborate with community organizations to share best practices for intergenerational projects that work, and 5) Financial investing in intergenerational programs and networking.

Stefano Guerra, Portugal

Discussion of older persons value. In Portugal, there is a strong belief in intergenerational to enhance its culture. He shared examples related to the SDGs including shared experiences between younger and older persons, and mentioned adoption of key recommendations from the Older Persons Workgroup (March 2024).
