E-Governments and Inclusion: A United Nation Global Dialgoue

The investments in digital technologies (virtual reality, artificial intelligence, among others) will require an examination of governments digital landscape. In a United Nations report regarding electronic-government (e-government) among the 193 member nation-states, survey findings reveal that the Civil Society Organizations agree that digital services are essential to providing basic government amenities to residents including health, safety and security, education and social welfare services. E-government services are fundamental to service delivery in modern administrations as indicated by the United Nations in report titled, Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic on Trade and Development: Lessons Learned (2022):

The pandemic has amplified the importance of e-government and digital technologies as essential tools for communication and collaboration between policy makers, the private sector and societies across the globe. Digital technologies contribute to national and local development, facilitate the sharing of knowledge and guidance, and enable the provision of online services and solutions in both ordinary and extraordinary circumstances, making the transition towards digital transformation inevitable (p. 1).

On September 29, 2022, the leadership at CEE, corporation, did participate in the e-governments policy discussion, Strengthening and Scaling Up Inclusive Digital Services A UN DESA Global Policy Dialogue, and had their question voted as most important for the panelist to address. Our concerns are the impact of digitalization, specifically, artificial intelligence (A.I.) on public services. We are pleased that our question was addressed and acknowledgement of its importance by the panels. For additional information please follow the UN DESA at www.un.org/en/desa/policy-dialogue

Sincerely,

Dr. K. Garth-James, CEO
